Question: after all the years of being an engineer what was your proudest moment has being one?

  1. Hey Thomas,

I reckon my proudest moment was seeing a system I helped design, installed on a ship. I was involved in that project for over a year and there were plenty of good and bad times, lots of challenges and I worked with lots of different characters. But when I saw it finally installed and working correctly I had to give myself a wee pat on the back (and the rest of the team of course!!)

  2. I think my best moment was using an app which you can download, called skyscanner, which show you where to look to see things like stars, and the ISS and satellites going overhead, and it tells you which ones are which.

You can see satellites if you are somewhere where it is night, but the satellite is high enough up to still be in sunlight- it looks a bit like a shooting star. And with this app I was able to stand in my parents’ garden with them, and look overhead, and see a satellite that I’d worked on shooting overhead like a shooting star, and know that stuff I’d designed was in that point of light… that was quite a humbling moment!

  3. I honestly don’t think I have reached that point in my career yet, but it is great and rewarding if you speak to people using your work and get their feedback on it. Also that moment when you can “convince” a potential end-user of your idea and to experience how your idea develops. 🙂
