I suppose in one way or another I always wanted to be an engineer. When I was younger I used to love building Lego and Technic so without realising it, I was doing engineering! Through that I wanted to become a Lego builder / tester / designer. I was always fascinated at how many different things you could build with the same pieces. When I got into Technic I loved how you could make things move and, even later on, when I got my first Mindstorms kit, how you could program robots to think on their own.

Do you build any Lego, Technic, K’Nex or anything yourself?

I never really planned to be an engineer. I always enjoyed doing DIY with my dad, though, but until my last year of school I would have never thought I would study maths and computer science – although maths was one of my favourite subjects at school. My other favourite subject was arts, and up to some point I have seen myself working in that area. In the end it was all just down to not finishing a portfolio for a design study programme that made me study maths.
